Patrol continuously — rounds every 15–30 minutes per your assignment. Check every area in the fire watch zone. Know the location of the nearest fire extinguisher and fire alarm call point. Call the fire brigade immediately if fire is found — do not attempt to fight a developed fire alone.
A fire watch patrol checklist for security officers assigned to fire watch duty — either during impairment of the fire alarm/sprinkler system or as required by the fire code during hot work, construction, or events. Documents each patrol round with the time, areas covered, fire hazard observations, alarm panel status, extinguisher availability, and any incidents or conditions noted.
Fire watch is a critical safety assignment, not a box-ticking exercise. When fire detection or suppression systems are impaired, the fire watch officer IS the detection system — their patrol is the only thing between a smouldering ignition source and a fully developed fire. This checklist ensures patrols are documented and genuinely conducted.
